ESPN reports that
Mark Cuban filled
out an application
to bid for the Cubs
in July.
When he showed up at
the game this summer
in Cubs attire and
flashing an
It's Gonna
Happen sign we can
only wonder, Mark,
what's your it?
ESPN quoted former
Cubs pitcher Steve
Stone:
"People always come
up and ask me if the
Cubs are going to
win in their
lifetime. And I
always give them the
same answer: 'How
long are you
planning on living?'
A new owner has a
chance to help make
that happen."
With the "For Sale"
sign hanging in
front of Wrigley
Field, the Cubs have
certainly done their
best to prove they
are worth that $600
plus million price
tag.
So how can a phrase as simple as Its Gonna Happen
mean so many things? Or, as it turns out, how can so many Japanese phrases
mean Its Gonna Happen?
Our second attempt at the translation (above) was
written by friends of mine from the Japanese media. They actually
wrote about 12 different ones, before deciding on the one that they felt
expressed our sentiment best.
Looks like SI found another one! Which brings
home our point. No matter how you say it, spell it, translate it, or
shout it from the rooftops around Wrigley, Cubs fans, Its Gonna Happen!
Thank you, SI, for your endorsement. The Cubs
are setting the pace for a World Series showing. And could Fukudome
be the one to help make it happen? Looks like we are in for quite a
summer!
Stay tuned baseball fans - we're just getting warmed
up at Wrigley!
Look for IGH outside - we're selling our apparel at home games. If
you can't make it to the game, shop our online store and show Fukudome and
the world that you believe Its Gonna Happen.

Sports Illustrated, July 24, 2007:
"It's Gonna Happen:
Relax! It's not a prediction but rather the latest slogan adopted
by baseball's most Series-starved franchise.
For these Cubs, however, there is a creeping feeling
that it may be more than that"

Making News in Chicago
We're in the
news, for better or for worse,
guys. Thank you to SI.com for
the great photo - you know
what my Christmas cards will
look like this year! It's
Gonna Happen has appeared in
The Chicago Sun Times, The Red
Eye, Sports Illustrated, and
USA Today, as well as numerous
local papers and blogs.
Great news is
that my hometown team and the
fans have adopted "It's Gonna
Happen" as the unofficial
Chicago Cubs rallying cry as
we battle to win the division
and have October baseball in
Wrigley!
Bad news is
that someone had to
remind Chicago of one of my
youthful indiscretions -
yes, the chat I tried to have
with Randy Myers. On the
pitcher's mound. In 1995.
Apologies were
made. Again. And again.
And, well, you get the idea.
Can we just leave it with
"It's NOT gonna happen, ever,
again?"
Let's keep up
the spirit! I'd love to see
Chicago Cubs in the playoffs!
Hey, It's
Gonna Happen!
Thanks for
believing.
Mike Downey,
Chicago Tribune writes July 17,
2007:
"It's Gonna Happen" were the
words on the Lance
Armstrong-style rubber
wristbands—blue, not yellow—that
Cubs player Mark DeRosa found
waiting for him in a large box
by his locker a few hours before
the game.
"It's Gonna Happen" read the
T-shirts of fans in the stands
who saw a great game lacking
nothing except Barry Bonds, who
hid in his hole like a
groundhog."
Adam
Rittenburg, Daily Herald writes
July16, 2007:
"From his post in right field,
Mark DeRosa periodically scans
the crowd, taking in the
hilarity, debauchery and
creativity native to the Wrigley
Field bleachers.
The inventive, homemade signs
Cubs fans display are
particularly entertaining for
DeRosa.
“I really get a kick out of the
signs,” DeRosa said Sunday. “I
see a couple of them flying
around, the ‘It’s gonna happen’
signs. Hopefully we buy into
that.”
Paul Sullivan,
Chicago Tribune writes July 15,
2007:
Near the end of the game, DeRosa
was looking around the bleachers
when he caught a glimpse of a
banner that read, "It's Gonna
Happen." There was no need to
decipher its meaning. The fans
have been unbelievable," DeRosa
said. "And as good as they've
been, that's how hard they rode
us early on, and rightfully so.
We deserved it at that time. I
really get a kick out of the
signs like 'It's Gonna Happen.'
"Hopefully we buy into that. I
know a lot of guys think
something special is going on
right now, and we're just trying
to ride it out."
